2008 Highlights

2008 has been a busy year at Water's Edge and I haven't been able to update the website as often as I would have liked.  What I have decided to do is post a bunch of pictures as a sort of highlight reel recapping 2008 thus far.  Enjoy!

Winter '08

The ice fishing season for Pike in the Belgrades was highly successful, with each trip landing Pike ranging from 8-18lbs.

Moosehead Lake has removed the bag limit on small togue in an attempt to bring back the struggling Salmon and Brook Trout populations.  This is a very fun outing for our anglers who come home with dinner and some tired bodies after non-stop action.  We made several highly sucessful trips up to Moosehead this past winter, where 40 fish days were not uncommon!!

Four Pike ranging from 6-16lbs, and a classic sunset at the end of a day on the ice

Many of our northern excursions landed landlock salmon up to 20" and Brook Trout up to 18".  Tons of snow this past winter!

A day's catch on Great Pond and a happy angler's first fish (Lake Trout) caught through the ice.  If you've never had a chance to get out on the ice with us you've been missing out!

Spring & Summer '08

The seasons started off with a bang with many local rivers producing quality Brown Trout...

Early seaon Brook Trout and Nezinscot River scenery.......

Float tube trips are available on remote ponds around the region......

The view upstream from Middle Dam on the Rapid River, and a fiesty 18" Kennebec River Salmon.......

The McGowan Family prepares for a day on the water, and a 19" Rapid River Salmon....

Fly fishing the Dead River, and a solid 17" August Brook Trout....

A seasoned vet knee deep below Grand Falls, and an ecstatic first timer w/ a Dead River Salmon...

A 4lb.  20.5" brusier of Brook Trout, who doesn't love to see a fish like this come out of the water in August?!?

Fall '08

Mountain Hardwear product testers along with writers from Backpacker & Outside Magazines paddled Meadow Stream and Great Pond with me the day before they headed for the Maine Huts and Trails kick-off in the Bigelow range.

San Diego native Pete Pelletier takes on the Kennebec Gorge area just after peak foliage season; quality Salmon bite througout the day!

Improper Bostonian magazine Editor Andrew and writer Nick Altschuller joined me and fellow avian photographer and friend Garth McElroy on an early season Goose hunt.  The hunt was then featured in the Novermber 2008 issue of the Improper Bostonian (Boston based magazine) highlighting wild game cooking.  Unfortunately the bright sunny day limited our action but we had a beautiful day in the field.

New Hamshire/Mass. natives and longtime friends Brian and Chris hit the field for a Goose hunt that morphed into a jumpshooting trip for ducks on account of heavy fog.

The ducks were agreeable and they managed some good shooting in the afternoon.  Really good looking Drake wood duck!

The rest of the season was hit or miss on both ducks and Geese as the migration took birds either a bit to our west through NH and VT or a Canadian migration that kept to our east and funneled birds down along the coast.  We did have quite a few good days in the mix despite the unusual migration.

A mid-season limit.....

A good October day on ducks in the field; birds were shifting over to their winter plummage.
