Saturday:  Feb. 17, 2007

Undisclosed Northern Maine Lake -

~ Jeff w/ a nice 19in. native Salmon

~ Nick finally gets outside of the shack after a morning of high winds and blowing snow

~ Jeff w/ another nice Salmon (21in.)

Sunday: Feb. 18, 2007 - Great Pond

~ Keith w/ a solid 15lb Northern Pike.

Sunday: Feb. 25, 2007 - Great Pond

Conditions: 36F w/ a light NW wind and a bluebird sky.......perfect

~Molly w/ a very nice 15lb 3 oz. Northern Pike

An old island pine frames 755ft. Mt. Phillip in the distance.

A 16lb 2oz. Northern Pike w/ a belly fully of alewives & perch.  A beautiful day and some stellar fishing!

Saturday: March 3, 2007 -  Great Pond

Conditions: we woke to 16 inches of snow this morning, followed by dense fog, temps in the 40's, and a steady rain from 2-4p.m

14 wk. old Piper, the newest addition to the Water's Edge waterfowling crew, investigates a 10 lb. 1oz Northern

Two late additions to our day's catch; both after 4 p.m.  A 12  lb 6 oz. and a 7 lb 8 oz. Pike.  It was an interesting weather day to say the least!

Sunday: March 4,  2007 -  Moosehead Lake Region

Conditions: Partly Cloudy, 30F, w/ a gusty 40 mph wind

Josh & Rick out tending a trap that eventually produced several landlocked salmon

After releasing 6 keeper Salmon and a small Brook Trout, the group decides to keep a respectable 16 in. native trout for dinner

On the trek out we had to wait as a herd of 16 deer crossed the snowmobile trail.  Here a young buck on the left watches as a 200+ lb. buck emerges from the woods.  In a month or so the males will begin their yearly antler growth process.

A very healthy looking adult doe pauses in the woods after crossing the trail; we gazed on in silence a mere 10-15 yards away.

Saturday: March 10, 2007 - Big Wood Lake; Jackman, ME

Conditions: Partly sunny, temps in the mid 30's, winds were calm

Jimmy & Jesse set up camp as we organize the shack and  figure out the logistics of setting up for 20+ Bates Fishing Club members

Christian w/ his first Salmon ever.....a 17" keeper

Transporting this many people proved to be an interesting task.  We finished the day w/ 8  Salmon and took off as it began to rain.

Sunday March 19, 2007 -  Great Pond

Conditions: 28F, Partly Sunny, w/ a light NW breeze 6-10mph.

Ian, under careful instruction by Andrew, battles his first Pike

At 9a.m Ian rejoices with this Pike, an 8-9 lb. female

An hour later Garth, Ian's brother, ices his very first Pike........a 26 lb. 37inch female.  Roughly 4 lbs shy of the Maine state record.  A trophy by anyone's standards!

The decision was made not to have the fish mounted; a photo session was in order.

Day's Catch From Top to Bottom: 26 lb Pike, 13 lb. Pike, & an 8-9 lb. Pike.

Garth w/ his catch just after the official weigh-in.  We originally estimated the fish between 20 and 22 lbs. and were excited to find it to be significantly heavier!

Ian takes one last picture with the beast before hitting the road back to New Hampshire.

Thursday: March 29, 2007 - Moosehead Region (Last ice fishing outing of the '07 season)

Conditions: Partly Sunny 36F w/ a gusty wind upwards of 45 mph

Gary w/ a healthy 15 in. Brook Trout

Who doesn't appreciate a closeup of the last Brookie of the '07 ice fishing season?!?

We capped off the day with this respectable 17 in. Salmon.  During the course of the day the group caught three Landlocked Salmon and two identical 15 inch Brookies.  Another great ice fishing season comes to an end here at Water's Edge Guide Service.  Looking forward to seeing some new faces out there on the ice next season; book your trip today!
